Meet Sally Whelton, NCIDQ
Drury Design is pleased to announce our newest senior design team member, Sally Whelton. “Sally is an experienced and well-versed designer. We value her knowledge and know that her experience in both the commercial and residential side of design will serve our clients well,” says Gail Drury, CMKD, founder of Drury Design.
“I would say that my experience working for larger architectural firms in the Chicagoland area helped me build a foundation, appreciation, and understanding of a large variety of design styles, and space planning, to meet residential clients’ needs and vision.” Sally felt Drury Design was the perfect fit, and especially enjoys working directly with homeowners to create beautiful new spaces.
Experience and History
Sally comes to Drury with years of design experience under her belt. Sally worked as a professional interior designer and continued honing her designs through her time at various architecture and design firms. She left the commercial design world, eventually shifting her focus to specialize in kitchens and baths. Sally desired and appreciated a more personal perspective on the residential side of design. Having the ability to personally connect with her clients and help them create a home that improves their lives in the way they feel and function in their home is what she truly values.
More from Sally Whelton, NCIDQ
How would you describe your personal style?
I would say I lean towards clean line Transitional with a classic glamour influence.
What stimulated your interest in design and interiors/kitchen and bath?
I had an interest in space planning and architecture at a very young age. Throughout high school, I took engineering and architectural courses that enabled me to design, draw and build models for single-family homes. Senior year, I took an Interior Design course and found my true passion. I then continued my studies in college and beyond!
Tell us about one of your favorite design projects.
One of my favorite projects was working with a client for their new build construction single-family home. My favorite aspect of the process was developing the design and floor plan for the Lower Level. I transformed and planned the raw space into a custom Entertainment/Media room with a large screen and bar, wine bar, wine cellar, fitness center, and bathroom. It was an opportunity for me to create a state-of-the-art installation for my client that reflects the way they want to live as well as maintain the French Chateau style of their home. This project was the catalyst for me to start solely focusing on residential design and architecture!
