The biggest challenge was creating more storage, balance out the space and what to do with the unusual fireplace wall.

“This was a fun project with a great transformation. Our first meeting was at Ditka’s restaurant to show me the stone walls which they loved, this was our inspiration and everything fell into place from there.”

Cherry wood cabinetry with a simple contemporary style and warm caramel colored granite create the foundation of this award-winning space. Ceiling height cabinets allowed for more storage. Pantry storage cabinets flank both sides of the cooking area for symmetry and allow more counter space for prep and cooking. A contemporary blocked tile floor, stainless hardware, a striking glass and stainless hood and a combination matte and iridescent glass tile backsplash completed the look.

This kitchen remodel was the work of Drury Design designer, Tina Muller and was recognized in the 2008 NKBA DesignVisions Design contest as one of the top kitchen designs submitted for that year in the small kitchen category.

“It is always a lot of fun to incorporate something you love, whether it is a piece of furniture, stone, tile or even dishes.”

“Betty and Ken were great to work with, and were not afraid to try new ideas.”
