From Bathroom Trends Magazine – this three page feature focuses in on a Naperville, IL master bath design and remodel that overcame space and size limitations to create a spa-like oasis with simple but elegant style.

Space may be the final frontier, but it was merely a jumping-off point for Drury Design when conquering a Naperville, IL bath remodeling project recently featured in Trends magazine’s Summer 2013 issue and posted in our Articles and Features webpage.

Maximizing interior space was key to transforming and updating a fully carpeted, long and narrow master bathroom, sorely in need of a makeover. “The bathroom needed to be completely remodeled, but there was literally nowhere to go,” said Drury Design interior designer Tina Muller. Limited to use of existing space, “the room was made even smaller by a solid wall between the tub and shower and a half-wall that concealed the toilet,” she said.

Removing the two existing walls created more usable space

The two dividing walls, concealing the shower and comode, were removed. The shower walls were replaced with glass for a more modern and spa-like atmosphere and in return, increased the visual width of the originally narrow room. To further maximize space, Muller designed tiled shelves in the shower and added a Carrara marble bench, extending beyond the steam shower glass, doubling as a ledge for decorative towels on the tub side.

A dramatic tub and shower wall helped to create a focal point for the bathing area

Serving as focal points of this transitional bath makeover was a dramatic tub and shower wall as well as a dark-stained Alder cabinet. For a touch of sparkle, Muller added a chandelier and crystal lights above dual basins. “This is a simple space and it needed something dramatic to make it special,” she added.
