Naperville Master Bath Remodel Turns Home into Spa
Fourteen years after purchasing their home, this couple was ready to transform their tired master bath into a rejuvenating in-home spa center.
Their vision for their master bath renovation included:
-Create a spa-like environment
-A timeless design
-Year-round comfort – a warm bathroom during winter, and a cool bathroom during summer
Platform Tub Goes and Steam Shower Expands
To make this transformation possible, several major changes needed to happen first. After removing a large platform tub, both of the biggest challenges in this project were in the shower area. Each solution required serious re-engineering.
To expand the original shower’s tiny footprint, the frame needed to extend beyond the original wall and ceiling.Then, the ceiling for the steam shower needed to be lowered to fit with the vaulted ceiling. Width was also an issue as was placing a tub and shower on the back wall with a large existing window. Working in such a tight space required many precise measurements, creative problem solving, and careful installations.
Master Bath Design Fulfills Wish List
The new master bath incorporated all all items on the client’s wish list: more storage, a floor with radiant heating, an integrated entertainment system with a TV and stereo speakers, a steam shower with body sprays, a towel warmer and a spa-inspired look.
“We are still just as excited about the bathroom as the day it was completed,” says the homeowner. “Our designer, Tina Muller, was fun to work with and has a great eye for design. Elegant Bath Design Compliments Home Decor
To achieve an elegant and soft look to match the home’s décor, the homeowner selected creamy white cabinetry with a warm glaze from Grabill Cabinetry. We exchanged the built-in linen cabinet for a striking custom cherry armoire to house storage along with the television and stereo systems.
Ceramic Subway Tile Ties Design Together
Hand-glazed ceramic subway tile in the chair rail and baseboards sets off the Calcutta tile floors. A rhomboid pattern made of Calcutta gold forms the shower floor.
End Result: Luxury Master Bath
The spa-inspired luxurious amenities include heated floors, remote controlled Velux skylight, a computerized shower system, a steam machine and a warming drawer for towels and bathrobes. The end result is a luxury bath equipped with everything needed for a total spa experience!
