Having raised her children in this 100-year-old farmhouse this homeowner decided to put her feminine stamp on her home. The goal was to capture the gracious, timeless style of this home’s 100-year-old architectural design while including the necessary modern kitchen conveniences with chic touches for a homeowner who loved to entertain family and friends.

Turning The Page On History
For this Chicago kitchen design, the challenges were multiple: to instill necessary turn-of-the-century charm, increase kitchen storage, and provide an island within a limited space without adding foot space or tearing down walls.
A custom silver leafing and rub-through design embellished the furniture piece island.
First, an existing built-in pantry was eliminated to allow for the depth of a 36” Sub-Zero integrated refrigerator/freezer and maintain space for the island, and 30” Wolf range. Floor-to-ceiling cabinets with roll- out shelves and tray dividers were added, with 12” deep base cabinetry near the refrigerator for additional storage, as well as in the new island. Furniture quality base and moldings inspired a tall pantry, hiding existing plumbing.
Iridescent mother-of-pearl, oval-shaped backsplash tiles made for a luxurious backdrop, further reflecting the mirrored refrigerator doors and crystals from the four light fixtures.
Antiqued mirrored glass refrigerator doors with leaded muntin detailing not only reflected the beautiful island piece but created the illusion of a wider room.
‘I really enjoyed working with Georgine on this kitchen design. Engineering challenges aside, I really appreciated the opportunity to bring some fun touches and colors into this design like the mirror-clad refrigerator panels and painted island and found her vision quite inspirational. The end result says it all,’ quotes Brigitte.
