Every remodeling project is filled with decisions. The biggest ones naturally get the most attention, but they’re not always the ones homeowners appreciate most.

As designers, one of the most rewarding parts of our work comes long after the project is finished. When we reconnect with clients months or even years later, we often hear about certain features — the ones they use every day, the ones that make life easier, and the ones they’re especially glad they chose.

Here are a few of the design decisions our clients consistently tell us they’re glad they made.

Thoughtful Storage That Works the Way You Live

Beautiful cabinetry is only part of the story. What’s inside those cabinets often has an even greater impact on daily life.

Built-in drawer organizers, rollout shelves, pullout trash and recycling centers, spice storage and well-designed corner cabinet solutions all help eliminate frustration while making the kitchen more efficient. These aren’t flashy features, but they’re the kinds of details that improve everyday routines.

It’s often the difference between simply having enough storage and having storage that’s designed around how you actually use your kitchen.

Appliances That Change Everyday Cooking

Some appliances require a leap of faith because they’re unfamiliar. Steam ovens and induction cooking are two of the best examples. 

Homeowners who are new to new kinds of appliances might initially wonder whether they’ll actually use them. Once they’ve lived with them, those doubts tend to disappear.
