Revived Hinsdale Coach House

“From the moment I met Janice Teague, I knew our kitchen remodel would turn out great!”
– Julie Milani • Hinsdale, IL

This unique home was originally a coach house built in 1895, servicing a large adjacent estate. Having lived in the neighborhood for years, the homeowners wanted to update their kitchen to be more conducive to entertaining, something they had wanted to do for years.

A very unusual layout and two immovable posts meant designer Janice Teague had to get very creative. An angled wall was removed to create a perfect niche for the range and oven, tall pantry cabinets on the right were designed to hide a support post while providing ample storage, and the glass shelved wall in the middle seamlessly hides the second post.

This design earned Janice the Best Medium Kitchen Before & After honor and the 2018 NKBA Chicago Midwest Design Vision Awards.

“We are very happy with our choice of designer and design company.”

— Bob & Colleen Verbsicer • Hinsdale, IL
“We couldn’t have been more pleased with the choice we made. Janice was a joy to work with. In addition to her excellent design aesthetic, she has such a fun and engaging personality that makes her a pleasure to work with. She offered us several design concepts to chose from, worked to refine (and cost reduce) the one we chose and supported us through the entire remodeling process.
The Drury crew was punctual and professional. The entire, substantial remodeling project was essentially done within a day of the original schedule and all the trades did a great job. We are very happy with our choice of designer and design company and would strongly recommend them to others.”

Traditional Kitchen with a Fresh Flair, Naperville, IL

These homeowners built their home in the early 1980’s and raised their three children here. The couple wanted to update the kitchen while maintaining the traditional features in their home such as the wood trim, doors, and floors. Now, empty nesters, they wanted the space to feel warm and cozy for the two of them but also welcoming when their children and grandchildren visited.

To do so, the kitchen’s new hardwood floor was custom stained to match the rest of the home, custom curved windows were created to anchor the range wall, and the pop-out garden window was removed from the back wall and replaced with a 48” range top and 60” tapered hood to add a dramatic focal point.

This award-winning design took home Best Large Kitchen Before & After at the 2018 NKBA’s Chicago Midwest Design Vision Awards. To view this design in more detail, click here

Before & Afters

Elegant Master Bath Suite, Hinsdale, IL

Plentiful storage, coupled with dramatic elements, makes this master bath a functional, yet sophisticated, retreat. The Victoria & Albert soaking tub, set against a backdrop of cocoa-bean stained cabinets and Carrera marble accents, makes a dramatic focal point.  Porcelain floor tile from Porcelanosa in a Carrera pattern with dark accents marries dark cabinetry with light fixtures and walls.

A 42-inch armoire from Grabill Cabinet Company, flanked by two tall linen cabinets, fulfills the homeowners’ request for additional clothes storage. Watery mirror panels reflect light and keep the cabinetry wall from appearing too bulky
